Tire Codes

On the sidewall of a motorcycle tire there is information about the size, maximum load rating, maximum inflation pressure, tire construction and performance standards... We use this same system when listing our motorcycle tire products.

So to help you better understand the codes we have listed them below.

Example: 120/60R17 55W

120 = Tire section width in millimeters

60 = Aspect ratio (The height of the side-wall of the tire is 60% of the width.) which would be 72mm

R = Construction type (Radial) (type of tire constructed with reinforcing belts sideways under the tread rather than lengthwise. Makes the tire more flexible and more fuel economic.)

17 = tire fits the 17 inch diameter wheels

55 = Load index rating

W = Speed Rating (Letter rating that indicates the maximum permitted speed. here it would be up to 168mph.)

Remember: Actual tire speed and performance capability depends on the factors such as inflation pressure, load, tire condition and driving conditions.

F=Up to 50 mph		T=Up to 118 mph
J=Up to 62 mph	N=Up to 87mph	H=Up to 130 mph
M=Up to 81mph	P=Up to 93mph	V=Up to 150 mph
R=Up to 106 mph		W=Up to 168 mph]
S=Up to 112 mph		Z=Over 150 mph (with service description)
VR=Up to 200 mph (with service description)		ZR=Up to 200 mph (with service description)
